Behind closed doors

The door is closed behind you.

You would be left alone but the urges creep in.

Wrestling dark thoughts keep you awake.

Sleep is all you seek.

You welcome isolation.

Emotions are in the driver's seat ready to wreck you.

Nothing but commotion and chaos are familiar to you.

Anxiety and fear comes rushing in without any brakes.

This is a small taste of what goes on within an addicts mind. On the outside they may seem shy and quiet around others but on the inside they are crying out for help. You never know what someone is going through. We as humans are quick to judge them by calling them weird or even freaks. The only way they know to ease the pain is by acting out by means of their addiction. The voices are finally silent. The pain is nonexistent. The troubled memories have faded. They feel free. Time passes and they go on about their day as normal. Arrive home and the door closes once again....

True freedom from this nightmare is only reached by calling out to Jesus.

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” —Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” —Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

Ask God to take your burdens from you instead of giving into earthly desires. Stop letting your flesh win. Feed your spirit by reading the Living Word and practice daily prayer.
