12 steps to become Redeemed in Christ
12 Steps to become Redeemed in Christ Jesus. All steps backed by scripture.
1. I admitted I was powerless over my addictions and compulsive behaviors, that my life had become unmanageable. Accepting the fact that I couldn’t do this alone without God.
“I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” (Romans 7:18)
2. I began to believe that a power greater than myself could restore my to sanity.
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” (Philippians 2:13)
3. I made the decision to surrender all sin and my life over to the care of God. I asked God to take my addiction from me because I couldn’t do this on my own. Only He can save.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God ~ this is your spiritual act of worship.” (Romans 12:1)
4. I searched the deepest parts of my life to find any sinful habits that would separate me from Him.
“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” (Lamentations 3:40)
5. I admitted to God, to myself, and others closest to me the exact nature of my wrongdoings. Full unfiltered confession to God our Father. I also found a trusting person in my life to seek comfort and help in healing.
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” (James 5:16)
6. I was entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. I prayed for God to remove any sinful thoughts and actions from my life so that I may glorify Him.
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (James 4:10)
7. I humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings by confessing an asking God for forgiveness for what I had done against Him.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
8. I made a list of all persons I had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. Searched my heart for anyone I may have hurt because of my addiction. Over time I rebuilt the relationships that I ruined in the past. Forgave anyone who may have wronged me.
“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31)
9. I made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.” (Matthew 5:23-24)
10. I continued to take personal inventory and when I was wrong, promptly admitted it. Continued to pray for forgiveness for any sins.
“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” (1 Corinthians 10:12)
11. I sought through prayer and meditation to improve my conscious contact with God. I improved on my Bible studies
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” (Colossians 3:16)
12. Having had a spiritual experience as the result of these steps, I try to carry this message to others and to practice these principles in all of my affairs. Nothing is more powerful than testifying to others what the Lord healed me from.
“Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1)
